As a result of metabolomic research in oncology, a new metabolite, named AF300, has been identified that is present in various tumours and involved in tumour progression.
A patent related to its properties and identification was granted in June 2011.
All the steps leading to the production of this metabolite have been identified and it has been shown that its production is inhibited by different anti-cancer drugs such as tamoxifen, and AF122, the lead anti-cancer drug candidate of the product portfolio of Affichem.
The economic interest of AF300 is two-fold: it constitutes both a diagnostic marker of cancer and a prognostic marker to monitor the efficacy of treatments.
Affichem is focusing on the development of diagnostic tools in order to position AF300 as a future partner-product in terms of the development and monitoring of the clinical efficacy of AF122 in cancer treatment.
